Common Ground : Silent Noises
Looking back, as far as we know, there is no human culture on earth that does not sing. Tunefully using the voice is thought to have predated the spoken language.
A way of imitating nature or creating entertainment.
Both presently and retrospectively, across cultures and traditions there are practices, rituals and gatherings that focus on the voice. Songs, sighs, sobs and shouts can help us to shift and navigate change; moment to moment, day to day; the past six months.
Silent Noises is an investigation into voice, silence and the art of listening. A retrospective into the voices that have echoed through my life. An invitation to consider what voices have weaved through yours.
Holly Jones joins to share her experience of working with community choirs, reminding us that singing, though something we can do alone, becomes a transformative practice as a collective.
What other small acts and rituals have we been practicing as individuals that are part of something bigger?
How can we use our individual voices to come together?
